Rose was a Montreal-based artist, a wealthy woman who had two
sisters, also artists. Rose and her sister Fanny were the painters, with
both sisters exhibiting at the Kastel Gallery, where I worked for a number of
years. The sisters were jealous of one another and they somehow solved
the problem by not exhibiting extensively. When Rose died, I remember
the estate consisted of an extensive collection of jewels. Paintings, drawings
and all sorts of works of art were found everywhere in the artists home; under
beds, in closets, in the damp basement. Over the following years, the
Kastel Gallery would promote the work of the sisters, giving them the attention
that they did not get during their lifetime. - Andrew Princz |
