The
Spirit of Angola
...
an ontheglobe.com country awareness project ...
In the spring of 2005, the team at ontheglobe.com
was sponsored by the Embassy of Angola in Hungary to undertake a country
awareness mission in the sub-Saharan African Republic of Angola.
The mission was undertaken a mere three years since the Republic of
Angola, which had recently celebrated 30 years of independence, emerged
from a long period of internal conflict.
ontheglobe.com visited a country that is rich in resources, culturally
diverse, and now faces its future in peace.
"While
three years ago peace finally came to Angola," said Andrew Princz
of ontheglobe.com, "Long-term stability is dependent largely, however,
on the economic development of the country: and in Angola, opportunities
are rife."
The
mission was undertaken by travel journalist Andrew Princz and photographer
Jura Nanuk who traveled to the bustling capital of Luanda, the diamond-rich
Lunda Norte and the scenic interior of the province of Malanje.
As a result of the mission, ontheglobe.com
in collaboration with the Ernst Gallery and the Embassy of Angola in
Budapest produced a highly successful exhibition and business cocktail
to raise awareness and discover business opportunities for the Republic
of Angola on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country's independence.
The event, which took place on 1 December 2005, brought together individuals
from the political, business and diplomatic communities, and fostered
ties between Hungary and Angola.
"Over many years Angola has seen large powers vying for its resources,"
Princz notes, "Angola now looks to expanding companies from Hungary
to seize unique opportunities to transfer technology or invest in the
oil-rich country."
ontheglobe.com wishes to continue to foster friendships, business opportunities
between Angola and the countries of the world. We are currently working
on bringing the exhibition The Spirit of Angola on a road-tour.
