Ecuador:
Enchanted islands and more
...
an ontheglobe.com country awareness project ...
In September of 2006, ontheglobe.com was invited by the FITE
(International Fair of Tourism in Ecuador) to undertake the beginning
of a country awareness mission to Ecuador. The visit began by a trip
to the port-city of Guayaquil followed by the famous Galapagos island
of San Cristóbal, and the nations capital, Quito.
The first port of call in this visit was the southern port city of Guayaquil,
the location of the FITE 2006 travel and tourism fair which ran from
21 to 24 September, 2006. Guayaquil, the capital of Guayas province,
is known as the "Pearl of the Pacific", which has undergone
important infrastructure developments in recent years.
Travel
journalist Andrew Princz then travelled over 600 miles to the easternmost
island of the Galápagos, San Cristóbal. These Islands, made famous by
the 19th century naturalist Charles Darwin, are true paradise on earth!
Here, we saw the abundant flora and fauna, including the lazy sea lions,
iguanas and giant tortoises.
The visit ended with a visit to the capital of Ecuador, Quito. Located
at 2,800 metres above sea level, Quito lies in the heart of the Ecuadorian
Andes.
"Ecuador is rich in natural and cultural wonders," said Princz
upon his return from Quito, "we wish to begin a multi-year journey
to discover the lesser-known tourism destinations of Ecuador."
In
future years, ontheglobe.com has pledged to further discover the continental
regions of Ecuador, including Amazonia, Cuenca and the Andes mountains.
These areas represent the future tourism potential for this country.
