preview by Anna Kutor
Over the past decade Africa has emerged as the continent with the most potential as a developing travel destination in the world. For its part, South Africa has been at the forefront of this tourism development for several years, as the diverse mixture of traditional and modern - from the colorful culture and landscape of Swaziland to the capricious Zulu festivals and the booming metropolis of Cape Town. This land proves to be an experience loaded with adventure and mystery.
Held annually for over twenty-five
years, INDABA, Africa's largest and most prestigious travel trade exhibition
has unlocked the latent economic and cultural value of African tourism and exposed
travel industry participants to innovative and untapped business opportunities.
INDABA (a Zulu word meaning gathering or get-together for a common purpose)
was established and developed by South African Tourism in order to effectively
market the country and make the destination more accessible for the mainstream
tourism market.
Growing into the world's third largest tourism event, INDABA provides the perfect platform for industry professionals to engage with and experience South African products. Surpassing the success of previous years, in 2007 the four-day exhibition saw over 12.500 attendees from 235 countries around the planet. The event also attracted 1,800 exhibiting companies, including provincial authorities, national tourism offices, accommodation providers, online travel, game lodges, tour operations, transport, camping and safari companies and media publications.
This year, INDABA expects to be welcoming over 13,400 visitors (reflecting a 7 % increase on last year's attendance) and 1,850 industry professionals, which signals the commitment and satisfaction of returning exhibitors and a high-standard brand to which new exhibitors can join.
